Welcome to the 2027 AHSIE Call for Proposals System
The 2027 19th Annual AHSIE Best Practices Conference is scheduled for March 7 – 10, 2027 in Seattle, WA. This year’s conference theme, Con Valor y Cariño: Advancing Educational Dignity, calls us to lead with valor, serve with cariño and advance educational dignity by creating learning environments that not simply provide access but are student centered.
Servingness is the intentional and holistic commitment to not only enroll Latinx/a/o/e students, but to serve them through culturally affirming, equity-driven, liberatory and community-rooted practices. This theme challenges us to lead from our lived experiences, ancestral wisdom, and collective strength to build institutions that honor the genius and strengths of our students and the resilience of our communities. Seattle invites us to expand the national HSI conversation and imagine new possibilities for servingness rooted in educational dignity.
In Seattle, a city shaped by indigeneity and innovation:
- Lead with Valor: Embrace the courage required to challenge inequitable systems, advocate for our students and communities, and transform institutions so that servingness is reflected in policies, practices, resources, and outcomes.
- Serve with Cariño: Center care, belonging, cultural affirmation, and authentic relationships. Cariño calls us to recognize the humanity, strengths, identities, families, and lived experiences students bring to our institutions.
- Advance Educational Dignity: Create learning environments where Latinx/a/o/e students are not simply provided access, but are respected, valued, heard, and empowered to thrive. Educational dignity asks institutions to honor students' identities, knowledge, languages, aspirations, and communities as assets.
This theme is a call to action for educators, leaders, and practitioners to lead boldly, love deeply, and serve intentionally.
About AHSIE
The Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institution Educators (AHSIE) exists to support the transformative work of the nation’s emerging and designated Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) as they seek to provide equitable educational opportunities to large and growing numbers of underserved populations, particularly Hispanic/Latine/x/@ and low-income students. AHSIE distinguishes itself from other national organizations in its practitioner approach. We partner with administrators, faculty, staff, program directors and/or managers who are on the ground level grappling with implementing equitable practices that transform practices and culture at higher education institutions.
