Please join the Santa Clara County Office of Education in conjunction with the Silicon Valley Reads Initiative in welcoming both the co-authors and the illustrator of the graphic novel, When Stars are Scattered for a virtual author/illustrator event. This event will be held on March 23, 2023 at 9 a.m., and all Santa Clara County school communities are invited to attend.
Author, Omar Mohamed, and New York Times best-selling author and illustrator, Victoria Jamieson, will be discussing the poignant, NationalBook Award Finalist memoir that details Omar's journey with his brother from a Somali Refugee Camp to the United States. Mohamed and Jamieson will talk about the camp, the writing experience, and what it was like for Omar to come to the U.S. with his brother. We will also see some video footage of refugee camps in Africa where Omar works with his nonprofit organization, Refugee Strong, 501(C)(3), which is committed to empowering refugee communities by providing support and hope through education.
We look forward to seeing you and your students there!
