Session Description: Gardeners can be powerful allies to enhancing and protecting biodiversity by creating habitat for wildlife in their yards. In becoming part of a patchwork of sustainable habitat, the home garden can support birds, beneficial insects, and other wildlife whose natural habitats are threatened by the loss of habitat, the use of toxic pesticides, pervasive invasive species, and the effects of climate change. Inspired by Douglas Tallamhy, this presentation offers guidelines for creating and caring for gardens that invite and support wildlife, including some of the best California native plants for the Sierra Nevada region.
